We tested this route on a development Mac. Lautta’s public installer is still being prepared.
What was the problem?
Our first route used the original Windows executable in an isolated Wine setup. It did not open a visible game window: the initial run failed to change display mode, and later windowed and separate DirectDraw replacement attempts ended in exceptions. Those failed runs did not establish gameplay. A native Community Edition comparison then reached the intro, menu and cave gameplay using a copy of the owned Steam data. The next question was whether Lautta could open that existing local test without changing the original download or its saves.
What did Lautta change?
The development app recognizes the owned Fallout folder and offers Play when its separate Community Edition QA copy already exists. It launches that native engine with the QA copy as its working directory, keeping the test configuration and saves there. Lautta does not bundle the Community Edition binary or distribute the game data. This is a local launch integration; it does not show that the original Windows executable was fixed or that a new user can install the same route from Lautta.
What did we verify?
On 23 September, the user clarified that both Fallout games had working graphics, video, audio, controls and saved games through Lautta. For Fallout 1, the earlier isolated engine test had also displayed the intro, menu and cave gameplay, and the user confirmed that its SLOT01 save loaded correctly after exiting and reopening. The local Lautta result rests on that later user confirmation; a fresh Fallout 1 Play click was not independently captured in the initial UI observation.
What remains unverified?
A portable installation on another Mac, full campaign completion, measured performance, other game distributions and mod compatibility have not been verified. The Community Edition engine has its own license, and its inclusion in a distributed Lautta release has not been cleared. The result covers the original Fallout data from the tested Steam build. Fallout 2 has a separate test note; Fallout Tactics still has no confirmed playable Lautta route. There is no public Lautta installer yet.
